EXTENDED INFO UPDATE: In response to Barry Ritholtz's question, the movie is a 1942 MGM propoganda short titled Inflation.  Aside from the macro lesson, it is famous for including the first film appearance of Esther Williams.

Salutes for this gem. Best comedy I've seen in a long time. Evil German whispers trying to hook Americans to inflation...
I wonder when it will be discovered by politicians that high oil prices are inflation initiated by Muslims. Waiting for that piece of propaganda; and fearing it may actually happen.
